According to a recent report from edweek.org, Nevada rates as a “D-” when it comes to technology in education. At the bottom.

While the report doesn’t specifically address CTE education, and indeed much of the report covers aspects of education far beyond our committee’s scope, it’s nonetheless important to consider the role IT CTE plays in the larger realm of technology in education.

District CTE administrator Terry Fowler and I visited two high schools this morning, North Valleys and Sparks, to see first hand what’s going on with IT Career and Tech education in Washoe County. We saw classrooms, observed teaching styles, watched students grapple with lessons and sampled the technology.
I’ll be posting more photos and observations over the next few days, many of which I hope can serve as jumping off points for future committee meetings or weblog articles.
